Imibic and Reina Sofía organize a meeting on Oligodendroglioma

The Maimonides Institute for Biomedical Research Cordova (Imibic) and the Reina Sofía University Hospital they organize for the second year a informative meeting between professionals and patients with Oligodendrogliomaa rare tumor that usually affects the young adult population between 35 and 45 years of age and is very limiting for people who suffer from it.

This is the second time that Imibic hosts this meeting, since last year it was also held on the occasion of the promotion of a collaboration network between the different centers and professionals whose work focuses on this pathology. The research and care work surrounding this tumor has always gone hand in hand with the association of family members and affected people (Astuce Spain), which since its constitution has had the support of the Malaga actor Manuel Bandera. In fact, today he has once again shown his commitment by participating in the opening of the meeting together with the medical director of Imibic, Pablo Perezand the managing director of the hospital, Garcia Valley.

Although it is a pathology infrequent (in Córdoba there are between 40 and 50 patients), the aggressiveness of the treatments that it often involves (surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy) and the lethality of the same (implies an average life expectancy of 10 years) make necessary visibility and commitment to research in this field. Along these lines, according to the head of the hospital’s Neurosurgery service, Juan Solivera“forums like this seek precisely to share the knowledge that exists and offer accurate information to patients and families, in addition to making this reality visible.”
