A land dispute leaves at least one dead and three injured in Paraguay

At least one dead, three injured and two vehicles set on fire left this Thursday in Paraguay a clash between people who apparently tried to enter a property and guards there, reported the National Police.

The event occurred on land located in the Remansito neighborhood of Villa Hayes, the capital of the department of Presidente Hayes (west). That area has come under the spotlight of public opinion in recent days, after local media denounced the presence of private buildings on property owned by the Ministry of Defense, identified as property 916, which has led to the intervention of the authorities to demand its restitution. The director of the Villa Hayes Police, Commissioner Luis Bazán, told local media that security guards confronted locals who alleged that this property is part of farm 916, which he ruled out.

In a message on the social network X (formerly Twitter), the National Police reported that in the crash “passed away a 46-year-old man” and three others, “all of legal age,” were injured by gunshot wounds. For his part, the director of the Villa Hayes regional hospital, Elías Fleitas, confirmed to Megacadena TV the death of one person, who arrived at that center “without signs of life.” Fleitas explained that four other subjects were treated, who were “stabilized.”
