Armengol claims “respect” for the Constitution and praises the “diversity” of Spain

“Long live the Constitution! Long live the King! Long live Spain!”. This is how Francina Armengol closed the oath of Princess Leonor’s Constitution. The president of the Congress of Deputies, the only institution that has spoken at the ceremony, has used the same words that Gregorio Peces-Barba, president of the Lower House, spoke in January 1986, when Felipe VI did the same. The rest of her speech was different. The socialist leader has applauded the “respect” for the Magna Carta that this act entails and, in a speech with words in Catalan, Galician and Basque, she has highlighted that Spain is “a cohesive, respectful, conscious and proud country of its diversity”.
