On paper it makes sense that in an attempt to get out of the creative crisis in which he was immersed and which apparently led him to even think about retreating, Tim Burton have sought inspiration in ‘Beetlejuice‘ (1989), the second feature film of his career and the film thanks to which he began to outline the personal imaginary that would come to define him, and become a pop reference. It is questionable, however, the insistence and literalness with which this sequel links together references to the original film without considering whether their inclusion has the slightest narrative sense.

And when he is not busy Recycle the most memorable moments Unlike its predecessor, ‘Beetlechus, Beetlechus’ introduces uncontrolled sketches of ideas, characters – many of whom do not justify their own presence – and crazy subplots incapable of forming a cohesive whole: there is a death and a wedding, a teenage romance, a criminal investigation and a corpse ex-girlfriend determined to get revenge on her ex-fiancé. Meanwhile, Burton is too busy driving a car at breakneck speed. endless gags, musical moments, visual whims and other occurrences to pay due attention to internal coherence, logic, rhythm and narrative effectiveness or purpose, and as a result the film becomes so confusing that at times it enters the realm of abstraction. bland humor, thick-skinned sentimentality and the desperation he displays in the process would be less jarring if it also offered even a hint of the originality, willingness to take risks, artistic honesty and artisanal charm that its sequel still exudes 36 years later.
