LEISURE IN CÓRDOBA | The Velá de la Fuensanta, Niña Pastori and Sergio Dalma liven up the first official weekend of September in Córdoba

The first weekend of September in Cordova is synonymous with Candlelight vigil of the Fuensantaone of the most deep-rooted traditions in the capital with the alligator, the little bells and Our Lady of Fuensanta as protagonists of one of the most popular festivals from the capital. This year, in addition, the festival comes with a local long weekend, a three-day weekendas the Fuensanta holiday falls on a Sunday, which is moved to Monday, September 9.

This weekend also brings with it the starting shot for the concert agenda this month in the capital, which is recovering its musical pulse with a dozen scheduled events. The first to take to the stage will be Shepherd Girl and Sergio Dalmawith performances scheduled this weekend.

Candlelight vigil of the Fuensanta

Cordova Live this weekend one of its most popular festivalslocated in the Fuensanta neighborhood, where They combine religion, tradition and play.

The event is held from From Friday 6th to Monday 9th September with its unconditional protagonists: the alligator, the bells and Our Lady of Fuensanta. This year’s programme is divided into three sections: the solemn, with the mass, the transfer of the Virgin and the proclamation and, on Saturday, the mass in the Cathedral and the subsequent transfer of the Virgin to the sanctuary in procession. The traditional, with Sardines, roe and salmorejadaand the fun part, with attractions for children and musical performances.

XIV Alligator Route

Along with the gastronomic events, another of the classics of La Velá that is strengthened year after year is the Route of the Alligator, with a canoe ride along the Guadalquivir River on September 7, 8 and 9. The departure will take place from the Nautical Center of the Balcón del Guadalquivir to the Roman Bridge, and back.

Shepherd Girl

The singer and composer from Cadiz returns to the capital, this time with her ‘Camino’ tourin which she presents the album of the same name that was recognized with a Latin Grammy award, the fifth in Niña Pastori’s career, for Best Flamenco Music Album.

Sergio Dalma

The singer is touring Spain on a tour to present his latest work ‘Smile because you’re in the photo’in which he offers a fresh and certainly eighties sound, tremendously catchy, a register with which Dalma feels very comfortable, but without losing the “Dalma style” of the great ballads that characterize him.

Sephardic Autumn

The activities continue this weekend activities of the 12th edition of the Sephardic Autumnwhich is celebrated around the European Day of Jewish Cultureand this year’s theme is family. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday there will be dramatized, educational visits and historical recreations.

Flamenco on the terrace

The program continues Flamenco on the terracewith 36 shows scheduled at the Visitor Reception Centre (CRV) between June and September. On Friday 6th, a dance of Carmen Ureñaand on Saturday 7th, performance of Araceli Campillossinging, and Roman Carmonaon guitar. Free admission until full capacity.

Flamenco beats

The Fosforito Flamenco Center hosts the cycle Flamenco Beats with the performance, this Friday at 9:30 p.m., of Ana Crisman Trio. Free admission until full capacity.

St. Bernard’s Verbena

From September 6 to 8, the Jardines de las Dueñas will bring back the Verbena de San Bernardo. Cistercian Brotherhood joins this popular Cordoban custom by celebrating a popular festival in the Cardinal Toledo Square.

The programme of performances starts on Friday 6th with a performance by the group ‘Salmuera’, followed by flamenco fusion by ‘Puro Duende’ on Saturday 7th. Finally, on Sunday 8th, the music will be provided by ‘Versión 2.0’.

Fairs in Cabra, Posadas and Santaella

September arrives with a good handful of fairs, festivals and parties with which to say goodbye to summer and welcome the new school year with music and celebrations spread throughout the province.

This weekend, the events are located in Cabra, Posadas and Santaella:

  • Virgen de la Sierra de Cabra Fair: From September 3 to 8

  • Fair of Our Lady of Health in Posadas: From September 5th to 8th

  • Our Lady of the Santaella Valley Fair: From 6th to 10th

Carcabuey rope bull

Carcabuey closes this weekend the activities of the ‘Toro de Cuerda de Carcabuey’, a tradition with more than 400 years of history, with a new release this Saturday, September 7, in honor of the Virgin of the Castle.
