The University of Córdoba presents the Yeguada Cartuja-Cenre chair at Sicab

The stand of Cartuja Stud Farm of the International Spanish Purebred Horse Show (Sicab’23) hosted this Tuesday the presentation of the Yeguada Cartuja-Cenre chair, with the assistance of the president and CEO of Yeguada Cartuja-Hierro del Bocado, Judit Anda; the rector of the University of Cordoba, Manuel Torralbo; the dean of the veterinary school, Manuel Hidalgo; the director of the Higher Technical School of Agricultural and Forestry Engineers, Rosa Gallardo; the director of the chair, Professor Francisco Requena; and the members of the chair’s advisory council, formed by José Juan Morales, Rafael Olvera and Rafael Blanco.

The general objective of the Yeguada Cartuja chair – Cenre is to create a permanent framework between the University of Cordova and EXPASA to promote training, research, innovation, dissemination of knowledge and technology transfer in different areas of equine production, collaborating with the internationalization of the equine sector in all its areas. Likewise, the objective of this chair is to raise economic resources, through participation in projects with European, national or regional financing, which benefit the equine sector.

The rector of the University of Cordoba was congratulated for this agreement, which represents “a great opportunity for collaboration in the transfer of knowledge between the University of Córdoba, which is a leader in research on horses and the equine sector at a national level with the only center of reference for the equestrian sector designated by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, such as the Yeguada Cartuja.” In the new chair, “our university will provide technology, knowledge and specialized personnel in collaboration with the Yeguada Cartuja which, with an emblematic and one of the oldest pure-bred Spanish cattle ranches in Spain, will allow us to develop work that enhances the sector,” he stated. .

It so happens that Expasa has been designated as National Equine Reference Center (Cenre), so the constitution of this chair enhances the value of the Cenre by developing projects to benefit the sector at the hands of the University of Córdoba, which has specialized tools in the equine sector such as: Sports Medicine Center or the Equine Veterinary Hospital. Likewise, it is planned to develop specific projects for the Carthusian lineage that will support its maintenance, improvement and internationalization.

For her part, the president of Yeguada Cartuja-Hierro del Bocado stated that they are “very satisfied with starting the first University-Business chair in Spain where the horse is the protagonist of innovation, opening a new space of possibilities; for this we wanted meet with very solvent scientific teams and create a work space with the entire sector through the advisory board.”

During the presentation, the signing of the agreement between the company and the university, and thus be able to begin the journey of this project in January 2024.

The objective

The essential objective of the Yeguada Cartuja-Cenre chair will be to establish synergies to enhance the territorial, economic, social and/or cultural development of the equine sector in Spain, with the signatory parties committing to carry out the activities.

The chair establishes seven strategic areas of work, on which the set of activities will pivot, where training will be a priority pillar, with the main core of work being Yeguada Cartuja Hierro del Bocado: Reproduction, Sports Medicine, Equine Morphology and Functionality, Equine Clinic and Surgery, Animal Welfare and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the equine sector, Digital technologies at the service of the equine sector and business management of equine farms and sectoral socioeconomic analysis.

The bodies for the management of this chair They will be a mixed commission formed between University and Business, which will guide the fulfillment of the objectives of the chair; and an advisory council, on the annual program of activities, with non-binding advisory functions.
