At least one hundreds of people have dead and more than 150 have been injured as a result of a wedding hall burning down during a celebration in the Iraqi region of Nineveh.
“The Nineveh Health Department recorded 100 deaths and more than 150 injuries as a preliminary figure as a result of the fire from the wedding hall in Al Hamdaniya,” said Health Ministry spokesman Saif al Badr, according to the Iraqi news agency INA. Shortly after, the Iraqi Red Crescent has published on social networks that the death toll has increased to more than 450 people.
Previously, the prime minister of countryMohamed Shia al Sudani, ordered the mobilization of all resources to help those affected.
As published by his office on his account on the social network X, formerly Twitter, Al Sudani has already spoken by phone with the governor of the region to determine the consequences of the fire.
