Flour and other products made from the black soldier fly are not intended for people, but for animal and fish feed, the press service of Rosrybolovstvo reported. Thus, the department responded to media reports that insects would be used to make food for people.

Due to the fact that the decision made in the media and social networks is being disseminated in an incorrect interpretation (as permission to use these products in food products intended for citizens), we inform you that this interpretation does not correspond to reality. The measure taken is necessary to expand the food supply for farm animals and fish , the department clarified .

The day before, the government expanded the list of agricultural products. The list included the breeding of black soldier flies and the production

from it flour, puree and other products.
Earlier, Deputy Head of Rosrybolovstvo Vasily Sokolov said that Russians could lose a popular food “brand”. According to him, due to the shallowing of the Volga, the Astrakhan roach is under threat .

Sokolov noted that the problem of low water in the Volga also leads to the disappearance of sturgeon: they have to be raised artificially. The deputy head of Rosrybolovstvo emphasized that the loss of spawning grounds was caused by the construction of the Volga-Kama cascade, which was never completed. According to data for 2021, water in the Volga turned out to be 10% less than normal.
