‘Wow Factor’ brings together the best graphic designers in Spain at the C3A in Córdoba

Around the motto The power of art and design in a strange worldthe Mateo Inurria School of Art and Design of Cordova has organized the ninth edition of the conference Wow Factorwhich this year will be developed in the Black Box of the C3A between February 13 and 15. It is an interdisciplinary event of a training and interdisciplinary nature, which will feature a dozen great figures from the world of design with the aim of “disseminating the value of art and design.” Likewise, on the 13th and 14th, eight workshops will be held, four at the C3A and four at the Mateo Inurria school.

The school has shaped an ambitious program with graphic designers awarded at the national level, architects, product and furniture designers, photographers, illustrators, ceramists and other profiles “who confirm how craftsmanship and design constitute a binomial that dialogues with each other,” says the vice director of cultural and artistic extension of the center , Marta María Berral.

Conference program

The days will begin on February 13 with an opening conference by Miguel Clementson, director of the school, and Marisa Gallén, a renowned Valencian designer, winner of the National Design Award in 2019 for her extensive global and innovative career, the second woman, along with Pati Núñez, to receive it.

Next, the multiple artist and photographer will intervene Ainhoa ​​Resano, author and coordinator of the ELLAS project, a photobook in which she brings together photos and stories of the residents of the upper neighborhoods of Bilbao to recover their memory. After a performance at the Black Box, she will speak Izaskun Chinchilla, architect focused on ecology, sociology and contemporary ways of life.

In the afternoon, there will be another talk by Inigo Callejafrom Amber Craft & Design in Chiclana, is passionate about engineering, wood and the use of resources.

On the 14th, the day will open with the presentation of Vincent Martinez, product designer who defines himself as a “design activist”, and at 12 noon, there will be a round table on crafts and design titled Quo Vadis? which will address the current relationship between both disciplines with the participation of Marisa Gallén, Pati Núñez, José María Ruiz, Juan Bolaños and Luis Torres.

After the round table, Carlos Aparicio of Santiago will occupy the C3A Black Box to offer a presentation that aims to demystify the creation of artificial intelligence models, and see how they relate to design, especially from the perspective of information visualization. In the afternoon session, Pati Nunez, a pioneer as a woman in the design industry and owner of the Pati Núñez Associats Studio, specialized in branding and packaging design, will offer her vision on the subject. On the 14th, Manuel Marsolan international reference illustrator of illustrated books, will put an end to the day.

Finally, on the 15th there will be three presentations, which will feature Andreu Balius, Mirna Bamieh and Javier Olivares, Illustrator and cartoonist who started in Madriz magazine in the 80s, and since then he has combined his work in numerous magazines such as El País Semanal and newspapers such as El Mundo or The Boston Globe with book illustration.

The planned workshops will be led by María Ortiz Iglesias (From real life to cartoons), Adrián Domínguez, Inmaculada Espuny and José Manuel Herrera (Stranger Geometries. Represent a strange world through geometry), Judith Todesco (Typographic anamorphosis), Ignacio Mínguez (Artificial intelligence), Ainhoa ​​Díaz (Japanese binding), Pablo Casado (Calligraphy), Iván González (3D character animations) and Rosa Illanes (experimental drawing).
